What happens if you stay in a country where your visa has expired?
I am from Brazil, and went to Spain as a student. I ended up meeting many friends, and I stayed longer than I was supposed to.. My visa has expired. What can I do now? What happens if I go home? Would I be able to come back? Can I make a new visa? Can I do it in Spain?

That means you are illegally in Spain. You're supposed to go back to Brazil as soon as the visa expires. You should go back as soon as possible. You may or may not be able to go back, depends on Spain's immigration policy.

You are now an illegal immigrant

The Schengen Agreement does not only facilitate free travel in Europe it is also a tool of cooperation on the Schengen Information System whose members are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. In other words you will run into difficulties to enter one of the above countries in future. I can only urge you to get in contact with a respresentative of your Embassy or Consulate immediate and try to fix what can be fixed, if you do not want to be banned from entry to European states. Since Brazilia as on the visa-waiver list for Schengen countries, it might be a chance to change your status from student to visitor. But get it done if you do not want to be treated as an illegal immigrant.
