working in brazil.....with american salrary...is it possible?
I'm doing my last year of college in Penn state and I want to move back to brazil since I live by myself here with no family... I can speak fluet spanish english portugues french and italian hahahaha of course I have an accent on all but portugues anyway I want to go back but I know the salary sucks...anyway I want to get paid like if I was in america....I study finance so I don't know if there is an american bank or company I can represent in brazil I look up some website but found nothing I'm sure there is one but I preffer to ask nicely and see if the answer is found for me.... :) here are things about me: I'm a citizen of the US (born here) I speak spanish english portuguese french and italian fluently.... I mean fluently not I can get by...I can talk with a college student in all my languages I have a minor in accounting and a major in finance can I please not get an "stay in the us" answer....I live by myself literaly all my family frined and life is back in brazil

To work in Brazil, you need a Permanent Visa. Getting such Visa is not easy because, like most countries, Brazilian legislation attempts to protect the nationals. A Visa application must be accompanied by documents showing that a national could not take the job; the Ministers of Justice and Labor must approve the Visa. The job and salary you will get will depend on your abilities. In Brazil, no one can be paid in dollars; you will have to be paid in Reais. I heard that some companies pay salaries in dollars deposited in the US; I think that this is legal, as long as payments are declared and taxes are paid.

I'm a college student planning on going to brazil for 2 weeks during my winter break from school. Usually break is from mid december to end of january. I'm being pressured by my family in brazil to come the day after christmas, but I'm not sure if i want to spend new years down there, even though where im going in brazil has a beautiful new years and itll be summer there when its winter here. December is a little busy for me with the holidays going on and seeing family and friends you havent seen for months. I figured id go in january when things calm down but tickets might be a little more expensive. so what do you think, screw it and party hard in brazil or balance my vacation out and go after new years?

Just wondering how the whole process works for studying abroad in Brazil. From what I understand You can take classes there for a semster to a year to learn portuguese and then can u simply enroll In a Brazillian University? Just wondering how easy is it for a foerigner (american) to be accepted into a Brazillian university? Also how expensive will it be (will it be free if I'm considered a resident and pay taxes). Also how easy can you find a decent job and still study as a student? Basically I wanna study abroad and possibly enroll in a university there in about a year or so. Can somebody enlighten me (not with just a link to a WEB site) Any personal experiance? Cost is an issue, Can you find scholarships easily or any other ways? Plus how long is an undergrad degree in brazil (i read that it was like 10 semesters) Plus are there associate degrees in Brazil? I've been trying to do some reseacrch but there is so much buerocracy and bad info --THX--

Rolando, At first, you must to get a Temporary Visa "VITEM-IV" for students. This don't permit to work while you be studying, but you may get a way to earn money in a not formal activity. If you play some instrument, or sing, or does magic, or paint, or make any other artistic and not employed activity, it's OK. You can show you in night clubs or publish an add in a newspaper selling your paintings, drawings, etc. We have many students from different parts of the world, (from the so-called latinos and neighbors to swedish and russian) studying here, but the classes are in portuguese. Buy some english-portuguese dictionary, a grammatic and some other like "how to say it in portuguese" and study these for three or four months before you come to Brazil. Arriving here, search for a intensive course for foreigners to understand conversation and to speak without accent. For to be accept, your high school diploma must be recognized in Brazil, but I think that Brazil and USA have a treat for it. Well, you don't told us what is the field in goal, but I can give you an idea about all. Federal Universities are the best and, the best about it is that all are totally free. No taxes, fees, etc. Only pass the exame (every october-december we have the "vestibular") and joy. Applications for vestibular to UFRJ is closed this year. Next vestibular inscription in august, 2008. Others, begin in september for many universities. Another, in october. Keep alert! I'm from Rio, then, the following explanations will be based in a supposed life in Rio. I think that you prefer to pay nothing to study. So, you must to be an applicant for vestibular of UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO DE JANEIRO (UFRJ) or UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL FLUMINENSE (UFF) or UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DO RIO DE JANEIRO (UERJ). If the carreer is veterinary, you must to apply for UNIVERSIDADE FEDEARL RURAL DO RIO DE JANEIRO. If your carreer is Physics, you can try CBPF, very very good (two of the Meson-Pi discovers worked there) wit a concept 6 or 7 (maximum). All those offers residence (apartments) in their campus, except UERJ and CBPF. And the dormitories are free of taxes. But, suppose that you don't pass at the exam. Hi, I'm 21 years old and I plan on start taking College in the USA in the following year. I'm from Brazil and I would be an international student. I play soccer and everything. Took the TOEFL last month and got 91 outta 120 in it. I wanna get a schollarship in the US... Is it gonna be real tough? What about my age? Is it a problem? What are the Colleges where I could take that? Can anyone help me out? Thanks A LOT.

Best way to ship a digital camera worth about $150?
I am currently an exchange student in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and my camera disappeared so I need a new one. I want to order one online and have it sent to my house in the U.S. since the prices in Brazil are ridiculous. What would be best way for my parents to send it? I don't have a CPF number and I don't want to pay that crazy import tax since I'm a student, and I'm not working and I don't want to have to pay for the camera twice just to get it!

The joys of being a foreigner. I´m an exchange student in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro. You can use your parents CPF number I suppose? The import tax is inevitable though. Its a new item.. you must pay. Think of it this way. The camera here would cost.. probably $500-600 reais. Minimum. Works out to $300ish american. You´ll still be saving money. Get your host parents to help you look to see if there are any loopholes on a gov´t website. Good luck

So I'm Brazilian and 17 years old in my junior year of high school here in America. Im an illegal immigrant but I'm planing to head back to Brazil and filing for a student visa. Will it work? My grades are good and i never committed a crime. Im leaving as soon as im 18 years old and finishing the rest of my high school in Brazil. As soon as i graduate could i file for a student visa? I have an aunt and uncle who are citizens here in the U.S if that helps and I scored 28 on the ACT and 1450 on the SAT. I might come back at 19 and try joining the military through naturalization. Could i qualify for a social security if i do the student visa?

It may work. It depends on how old you were when coming here. If your parents forced you, you would have a better chance.

You could do that but you will have to be convincing during your interview for the visa. Your overstay as a minor will not be used against you but it will make the consular officer nervous about issuing you a new visa. You cannot enlist in the US military unless you have a Green Card or are a US citizen.
