How can I convince my Mom to let me move to Brazil...?

How can I convince my Mom to let me move to Brazil...?
I already posted this but it was in the middle of the night so no one really answered...I am 13 years old and live in San Francisco. I am Brazilian and live with my mom. I had the idea to try living and being a student in Brazil. I speak almost fluent Portuguese. If I went to live in Brazil I would live with my uncle who has a 16 year old daughter and wife in the state of Rondonia. I have been to Brazil many times and while some parts of Brazil suffer poverty, Brazil is well developed and has many well educated people. The problem is I haven't brought it up with my Mom, as she gets easily offended by things like these. She will say I don't love her and won't miss her but that is not true. How can I convince my Mom? I only wanna stay there for a year

Just sit her down and tell her Hey Mom? I've recently been thinking about staying in Brazil for a little. I mean I like it here with you but I just really want to stay in Brazil. I'm better at Porteguese that English and I'm from there and I just really love being over there. I could stay with Uncle Blank and his family. I just really want to go. I'll miss you a lot and I'll miss it here but how about I stay there for just one school year and see how I liek it?
2 :
well let her time.. u are still her baby boy.... u are still 13 ... let her raise you like she planned to - when u are over puperty - or like 18 , 19 you will have it a lot easier to convince her ! :)
3 :
your 13, your too young to do that.
4 :
Sorry, I don't think there's any way she will let you. I know it doesn't feel fair but a parent's desire to protect her children is too strong to let them just move away to another country. She wants the best for you and probably just couldn't stand not knowing at all times that you were safe. (Even if you just wanted to move down the street she would feel this same way!)
5 :
It costs the Average American $200,000 to raise one child from the age of 0 to 18, yes zero, before your birth, clothes, le mans classes etc etc... Anyways you are 13 now. SO, if you moved there right now, it would cost your uncle about $67,000 to raise you until you are 18. Thats not including college, either. Most kids are NOT independent at age 18 and if you go to college for the next 4 years lets add $33,000 to that to make a nice even number of about ohh $100,000 total for your existance for the next 9 years. You're not thinking properly... It's also your moms job to raise you and teach you about life until you're mature enough, adjusted enough to step into the real world. Look back at some of your old pictures when you were 9 10 11 and you will say man what was a i thiking i look like a fool, but im smarter now i dress way better and dont have such a goofy haircut... Well, im 25 and I look at pics when i was your age, when i thought i knew everything about anything and said, man look at that dork, what was i thinking.... YOu will never convince your mom to let you go to brazil, unless she hates you and wants to pawn you off on someone else.
6 :
Why would it be a big issue? Just have reasons you want to go (for a new experience, etc) and don't just come out like you would rather be there than here with your mom. Sounds like you have an excellent plan, and staying with your uncle is SO much better than staying with some stranger in a exchange student program.
7 :
Maybe you could wait until you are in high school or in college and study abroad for a year.

Brazil for a year, can someone tell me everything about it!?
Okay, so my name is Alyssa. I'm a sophomore in high school. I love adventure and am looking for change, so I signed up to be a foreign exchange student in Brazil for a year. Can someone please give me a run down of the country? I know its sort of generalizing, but just basics will do. My main concerns are: How expensive is clothing Are people friendly usually Will I be discriminated because I'm from Usa? If I don't wear a thong bikini will I be considered strange?(lol) What are the men like? What is the food like? What should I stay away from/ make sure to visit? answers to any of these questions will be greatly appreciated!

I've only been to Natal, a small town on the very eastern shore. It has a great beach, and a wonderful sand dude buggy ride.

For me answer you accurately is necessary to know in which city you will be accommodated. The cities have different habits due to immigration of different people for each one of the areas. In the South German , in the northeast Dutch , in the southeast French and Italian . Like this being each place has different habits. Don't worry in being harassed in Brazil by being north American, here we didn't discriminate anybody, the maximum that will happen is that you will be called of gringa.
3 :
- well, i'm brazilian, and.. cloths... if there are ''de marcas'' (sorry but i don't know how to say that.. let me see... expensive.. whatever) it will be so expensive as in another country, but.. if there are simple.. it will be very chip, depends what u like.. - no, u won't be discriminated cause u are american, cause wu love stranger, and we are very friendly :) - no, many people use thong bikini, not the most, but some one else use :) - the food is amazing! but, if u don't like, u can have mc'D, subway, bob's, and other fast food - stay away from Favelas, it are veery veeeeeery dangerous! i hope that i can help u :D for any question, please, ask me via email ::D:D xoxo

Hi! Alyssa. I'm brazilian and I can help you about these questions. I'm from Rio, living in my hometown, so I know everything you want about Brazil and brazilians. First read this answer. But, after reading this, if you want to know more, I have another complete answer about Brazil and brazilians below. 1 - CLOTHING: Depends on the brands. If a imported (imported products are taxed for more 60% over original price) like Gucci, Versaci, Valentino, or some Von Dutch, will be more expensive, of course. But, don't care about this, because you will find many good brazilian brands at shopping centers. 2 - FRIENDSHIP Brazilians are very friendly. Mainly with foreigners because we are too much obsessive about the image of Brazil. Brazilians are very receptive for tourists or people who wish living here. Brazilian girls are easer to make friends. They talks with any person independent if he/she is ugly, poor or idiot. The World is not divided in "Winners" and "loosers", for us, brazilians. So, don't try changing their mind, with well accepted concepts in the USA, please. You will make friends so easily and quick that it can look different to you. Your new friends (girls) probably will treat you as they was a friend of you since ten years ago. This may be a little bit strange for you since you don't know her... Brazilian girls talks with no stop, sometimes. Be patient, please... Brazilians kisses two or three times when somebody is introduced, be man or woman. It's natural, here. Brazilians are very, very informal and will call you for your first name - Alyssa. Not your family name. As any other girl in Brazil, you will create a profile in Orkut. It's similar to MySpace and everybody have a profile in www.orkut.com. (OBS. Don't pay attention if a brazilian say he/she will call you later in cell phone, because is just all he or she will not do. This is a way for cuting/avoid conversations when they don't wants to talk with you.) 3 - US CITIZENSHIP No. You will not discriminated for your citzenship. But, if you become to support the acts of George Bush in Iraq, people will conden you atitude, of course. Brazilians loves all and everyplace. We have no enemies and almost nobody hate us (only due football/soccer).... 4 - THONGS Well. Almost every brazilian woman who loves Sun and beaches, wear small bikinis. This is our culture. Brazilian girls don't see a problem for wearing a very small bikini. This means not they are immoral or "easy for sex". To look beatiful and sexy is a good for brazilian women, not a sin for them. There's no age or marital state limit for it. If you are walking on the beaches at sunday morning, for example, you see families with young mons (20-35) almost naked (wearing very, very small bikinis) with their babies/children and the husband is close. You see these girls/women wearing thongs on the beaches and they loves this. It's not considered sexual exploration. But, they are beautiful and likes to show as beatiful they are. So, it's natural for them. There's a invisible competition among them to probe who have the most perfect body. This is a exibithionism, of course. But most brazilians everybody loves this freedom. We grow accostumed to watch many documentaries about our native (naked) indians, so, we have not too much problem about nudity as people have about this in USA. Even journalists wear thongs when in a report about summer or something like this. Observe only women/gilrs with big *sses waer thongs. People thinks a little bit ridicule when a woman with no *ss is wearing thong. Sorry, but this is your case (don't be offended), your friends will help you to choose an appropiated bikini. See this ((a fashion designer help girls to choose the best bikinis for them): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MuJX4qNv3A 5 - BRZILIAN MEN I must to confess, Brazilian men are a little bit submissive to their girl friends. Women rules (in therms of love) in most relations because women has that men are looking for, so, they rules...But, you will see some guys who think that they are doing a favor to be a boy friend of a beautful girl. Like that idiots we see on movies: they are the captain of football team and are members of a brotherhood at some top University, and they think girls must worship them. Some guys are thus, even in Brazil. I had seeing many people from USA asking for more information about they consider normal but is a tru streotype for us: possessive men who are violent against women. It's not true. Violent men are in any place of the World and Brazil is not an expection, but, is not the best place for seeing this. I know men from USA was pointed as the most agressive in the World due extra level of testosteron and I watch Law & Order... Well, beasts are present at every country but i'ts not normal in the USA or Brazil. Do you agree? Brazilians has no problems about different ages. I know 13/14 y.o. teenagers don't have friends above 17 y.o. in USA, Unfortunately people thinks this is strange and some, thinks this is pevert. Im' 43, and I'm talking with you, and I know if was in USA, this probably would result in a investigation by FBI. But, brazilians make friend at any age and you see guys with more than 20 y.o. talking or laying football/volleyball or videogame with teenagers or children less than 10 years. This not means that you see groups of friends with ages between 13 and 60 y.o. walking toghether looking for some fun. Not, of course, but, people don't think is so strange persons of different ages talking or playing some game. This is Brazil. 6 - FOOD I think Brazilian food delicious. But you find easy typical food from USA here: McDonald's and other US/Brazilian chains, hot dogs at any place, pizza like in Italy and too much snacks at hypermarkets. But, if you wish to pass all the time eating brazilian food. Nice. We love beans and rice, steak and ..., fish, spaghetti, etc. Furthemore, I advice you experience "coxinha" (http://images.google.com.br/images?hl=pt-BR&q=coxinha&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi), "risole" (http://images.google.com.br/images?um=1&hl=pt-BR&q=risole&btnG=Pesquisar+imagens)and "pastel" (http://images.google.com.br/images?um=1&hl=pt-BR&q=pastel&btnG=Pesquisar+imagens). Very delicious. Candies are the best of the world: quindim (http://images.google.com.br/images?um=1&hl=pt-BR&q=quindim ), pudim (http://images.google.com.br/images?um=1&hl=pt-BR&q=pudim&btnG=Pesquisar+imagens ), brigadeiro (http://images.google.com.br/images?um=1&hl=pt-BR&q=brigadeiro ), bomba, rocambole and others. I'm sure you will love all. 7 - PLACES Stay away from the favelas (slums). People there are nice and worker but, there are many trafficants who control the drugs sales and the guys have many guns and weapon for wars. So, take care to stay far from these places. Almost all problem of violence in Rio, for example, are concentraded in these areas. What you must to visit depends on where you will live. What do you think of Brazil?

What do you think of Brazil?
What do you think of Brazil? I'm a Canadian exchange student in Santa Catarina, Brazil, and my friends are always asking me what American's and Canadians think of Brazil, in general. That they live in the Amazon? They have no running water or electricity? In general, what do you think of Brazil

for some reason whenever i hear the word brazil i always think of black chicks with huge butts...

That it is the world's largest contiguous stretch of INHABITABLE terrain, as all its rivals have huge tracts of torrid desert or frozen tundra, and that, being so large, you can find in it whatever you are looking for, from São Paulo state with an area, population, standard of living and GDP, equivalent to Spain, to Piaui with all the wretched poverty of Bangladesh. Want the wild west of the 1880s, go to Imperatriz in Maranhão, want the finest Baroque architecture in the New World go to Salvador for the 16th century variety or Ouro Preto for the 18th century style. And if Salvador is almost the New World's oldest city, Brasília is still its most recent and modern. Want tropical rain forest, go to parts of Amazonia (while it is still there). Want apple orchards on land high enough to have snow every winter, go to Santa Catarina around Lajes. Want the world's largest waterfalls, visit Foz de Iguaçu. And there is a similar variety of inhabitants, among whom I like particularly the Paulistanos, remembering being in a long line for a taxi outside the Bienal when four young men jumped the queue. The crowd was about to lynch them when someone explained, "São latinoamericanos," by which he meant Argentines or possibly Paraguayans. Given this explanation with its assumption that one could hardly expect civilised behaviour from such people, the situation was immediately defused and we continued waiting peacefully for other taxis to arrive (which with admirable rapidity, they did).

Your friends, like many Brazilians, are very self-conscious about how Brazil is perceived in North America. They've been brainwashed into thinking that all Americans are ignorant about Brazil, that we think the capitol is Buenos Aires, that we think monkeys run around in the streets of São Paulo. Tell them that Americans know that Brazil is a major influence in the world--a modern, emerging, exciting economy. We know that Brazil exports cars and airplanes. We know that Brazilians speak Portuguese. And we are watching them with enthusiasm, waiting for the next big thing that Brazil and Brazilians will do in the world. Please try to encourage them to see us as worldly people, not gringos.
4 :
Well! I suppose that this question was to non-Brazilians. Anyway, it's normal to think this way about Brazil to foreign people. It's not their fault, but maybe their masters. C'mon! If I didn't have running water, I'd be sick and I couldn't talk to anyone here, which it shows that I've got eletricity. They think we live in 1500; hahaha. That's funny because they just wonder abou what they see on movies. It's not because the biggest part of Amazon is in Brazil that there are monkeys, Amerindians etc., on the streets. By the way, even in Manaus, which is in Amazon, is bigger than too many other cities which is too far from the coast.
5 :
I"m Brazilian, so for me is a big city. You will go to know different people because the Brazil has many different city. I live in São Paulo and here the people work a lot of. But here we are different city. I traveled for Amazon, Fortaleza and Recife, but Fortaleza is BEAUTIFUL in Rio de Janeiro, has violence. So, travel for Fernando de Noronha, Amazon, Santa Catarina, Fortaleza, the Brazil is very big and please come back for here, you 'll go to like. (please: sorry because I' m leaning englih yet)
6 :
Nobody like Brazilians. Europeans and North-Americans just like of Samba and the beautiful women. Lá fora somos só lixos. Quem vem pra cá só quer saber de farrear e pegar as mulheres daqui.

I'm from Brazil. I have never been an exchange student here because I live here. Your question is very broad. Make me specific questions about Brazil and I'll answer.
