Where could an American college student move to in Brazil?

Where could an American college student move to in Brazil?
I am a 24 year old male that is thinking about moving to Brazil for a few months just because I can do it. I want to live along the coast during their summer months.. need a good area that I could live safe and cheap for a few months. Any ideas? Or suggest other places to move to with beautiful coastal areas to live at for cheap. I have lived in England, France, China, Sierra Leone, Canada, and in 8 different states so I am an experienced traveler..

Srie Machado you're really not Brazilian with that last name? Your thinking moving to Brazil for a few month just because you can do it, What is that? Well depending on what month you're planing to go. Northeast Brazil have the most beautifully beaches and summer all year long. Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and south Brazil till the end of october is cold. Are you American? Brazil for Americans is really cheap but don't think you can be there like a tourist walking every were hanging camcorders... because they really assault you for nothing. try to be one of them in the street... and you are going to be safe.

Go to Sao paulo capital or Curitiba- parana, the rest of Brazil is just garbage, I was born there so I know.

eu tenho 14 anos, e tô aprendendo português quero estudar para 2 ou 3 mêses no brasil no verão meu e-mail: gilarenasfan94@yahoo.com meu MSN é o mesmo obrigado :) and Curious, you are ignorant brasil is a great country with friendly people and rich culture. dont say nobody wants to study there, because i definitely do. just because you don't, you should not make generalizations. and, you didnt even answer her question. if you are not going to answer, just leave the question alone. ok? thanks.

no, thank you. that country is like Baghdad! a lot of violence, crimes, corrupt cops, a lot of thieves, if they know you're an American they will kidnap and contact your family from the US to send them money or they will kill but they will kill you anyway.. I saw in the news that this Brazilian man stole a necklace from this Italian tourist and the Italian tourist ran after that man and a bus or a can ran over him and killed him, no one stopped the Brazilian man who stole the necklace! if you want to study English, go to a school in your country that offers English, I don't think anyone would exchange places with you to study there. =/ If it was study aboard in France. Italy, Japan, etc.. maybe people will but not Brazil. Good luck

actually just googling apartments in rio is a good way to go... other than that just come down here and start talking to people that is where you will get the best results, most of the apts are word of mouth... try going to places where foreigners hang out like the Irish Pub, or Hostels and Lapa and tell people you are looking for a place and you will probably find lots of leads. I have helped a few people who I met find places right away. also a few friends stayed here I think they have private rooms avail too ...................... You can find all sorts of apartments in the Rio/Niterói area. You didn't mention, but I'm guessing you want to rent an equipped one for a short period (vacation, maybe). This kind of apartment is more expensive than those rented for a traditional 30 month contract. As I live in Rio, I seldom look for apartments like these. I do it only when foreign friends ask me for help. I usually go to the newspapers classified ads, but that will help you only if you can read Portuguese. If you can, take a look at http://www.zap.com.br/imoveis/busca-de-imoveis-simples.aspx Even if you don't understand Portuguese, you can try it: in block nº 1 choose ALUGAR POR TEMPORADA (SHORT-TERM RENT), in nº 2 use the pick list to choose APARTAMENTO PADRÃO (STANDARD APT.), KITCHENETTE (a one-room apartment with a corner kitchen and a bathroom, surely the cheapest kind), and the VALOR (price in Reals, the Brazilian currency: 1 dollar = approx.1.8 to 1.9 reals, and so on. In box nº 3 use the pick list to choose the ESTADO (state), than LOCALIDADE (city) and BAIRRO/REGIÃO (part of town): a pop-up will offer some areas; I suggest CAPITAL / ZONA SUL (the Southern zone, close to the sea) and BAIRRO (district). After writing all this I realized how confusing it must be, so I ran a simulation for Copacabana and found small apartments (with pictures) with daily rates from 45 reals, but most of them costing 60 or 70 reals a day. My search resulted in this shortcut http://www.zap.com.br/imoveis/resultado-busca-imoveis.aspx I hope it helps you. In My sources I indicate sites in English, probably offering more expensive options. I hope you can find what you're looking for and that you may enjoy your vacations in Rio.

can you speak the language? well... i guess you could search on google.com.br but it would be helpfulf if you typed it in portuguese...if you cant then... use a translating tool.

I use Vanna at www.vannarioflats.com.br. If you can't contact her through the web site, e-mail her at vannarioflats@yahoo.com. Don't know why the web link doesn't work some times. She doesn't own any apartments herself but helps locals by translating into English. Tell her what you want and she'll fix you up. Her standards are way higher then mine cause we spend a couple hours looking at apartments one day and she kept saying they weren't good enough but looked fine to me. She only deals in cash (reals) but there are plenty of ATMs around. She'll ask for a security deposit (cash--I give US$), give you a receipt and then actually give you the exact money back when you leave. You'll sign a contract so everything is legit. I've used her about 10 times and never had any problems and always got my deposit back. Enjoy.

i think it depends on the of niteroi you want to stay at. are you going downtown niteroi or do you want to be by the beach? i hear the the beach side apartments can get to be pretty expensive. im guessing that apartments downtown niteroi probably cost a few hundred reias PLUS another hundred or 2 for landscaping/security guard/parking garage. i plan on moving to niteroi myself in a few years.

If you are looking for a longer term rental, and if you speak portuguese, the best option for you will be the classifieds of a local newspaper: http://odia.terra.com.br/classificados/ here you will be able to find short term rentals as well and way cheaper than in specific tourist websites. If you are looking for a short term rental, try http://www.ez-riorentals.com/?gclid=CJ29vdSAvJwCFZkA4wodAG1SnQ The prices and availability will depend a lot on the season. If you are looking for something for carneval, you sh

Depends on how old your cousin is as to whether the cousin can apply for a student visa or not. Student visas are not available to go to elementary or middle school, and can't be used to attend public high school for more than a year. Take a look at travel.state.gov for more information on student visas.

They need to apply for either an M-1 or an F-1 student visa. You can do that at the U.S. Dept. of Immigration's website
