Converting Student Visa to Permanent Residence in Canada?
Is it possible for an international student (from Brazil) while holding on to a student visa to apply for Canadian permanent residency while they study in a Canadian university?

I will likely be difficult, but there is a possibility. Contact the Canadian Department of Immigration and Naturalisation and ask how you'd have to go about doing so...legally. Good Luck!

No you have absolutely no right to permanent residency. However, there is a new immigration class for graduates, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2008/2008-08-12a.asp You would first have to graduate at least a 2 year program, then get a graduate work permit, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp to get your at least one year work experience and then you can apply for PR under this class.

You cannot change your student visa to a permanent resident visa. You must abide by the guidelines you agreed to when you obtained your student visa. One of the guidelines states that you will leave Canada at a pre-determined date. You will be eligible to apply for PR once you have used your student visa and return to your home country.

I think first you need to stay for work after your studies and you must apply for a work permit, how to do it here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp and after if you want to stay in Canada permanently, you must qualify under one of the permanent resident categories, such as the skilled worker category. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp
